Roadwork Alert: I-75, I-94
If your weekend travel takes you along I-75, prepare for a sea of brake lights. It will be a weekend of stop-and go on several sections of I-75 in Oakland County.
Crews plan to shut down two lanes on I-75, northbound, between Square Lake and Lapeer Friday night until Monday morning, and southbound between Sashabaw and Baldwin, Friday night until Sunday afternoon. WWJ's John Bailey reports the nighttime commute could be a slow one south of there as two bottlenecks will be in place between on the southbound side of Square Lake and Rochester Road starting at 9 p.m. Friday, and Saturday at 9 p.m. through the following mornings.
Meantime, if you have a flight to catch this weekend at Metro Airport, you may need a little extra time to get there.
Crews plan to funnel traffic into a single lane on eastbound I-94, between Wayne Rd. and Merriman starting at 8 tonight. Traffic is likely to back up into the I-275 interchange, so exit there, head north to Ecorse Rd., and re-join the freeway from Merriman. Or if you're heading to the airport, take I-275 south to Eureka Rd. Crews plan to have all lanes wide open well ahead of Monday morning's rush hour.
On Saturday afternoon, U.S. 23 was backed up for several miles because of road construction between Washtenaw and Bemis roads. The freeway was down to one lane in each direction.
