Road Rage Suspect Faces Five Additional Charges
BRIGHTON (WWJ) - The suspect who police say deliberately rammed his car into an SUV that was loaded with children faces five additional charges after another incident of road rage has come to light.
Authorities charged 26-year-old Steven Blaser of Brighton with three additional felonious assault charges, one additional malicious destruction of property charge (felony) and one misdemeanor charge of failing to stop and identify at a crash.
The new charges stem from an incident which occurred on June 27 in Brighton Township. Police say a 41-year-old man from Milford was driving with two 11-year-old children in his 2004 Chrysler 300 when he noticed a red Ford Escort tailgating his vehicle and swerving in the traffic lane. The man said he tried to pull over to let the Escort pass him, but the driver of the Escort, later identified as Blaser, tried to run him off the road while passing his vehicle.
The man said once Blaser was in front of his car, he slammed on his brakes. The man tried to stop but was unable to and struck the rear of the Escort. The man said Blaser stopped his vehicle, got out, jumped on victim's front bumper, kicked the victim's driver side mirror off and began punching the driver side window. Blaser then got back into his car and drove away at a high rate of speed.
The man was able to identify Blaser as the person involved in his road rage incident because Blaser's picture in was shown in the media after his arrest in a separate road rage incident.
In that incident, which took place in Brighton Township on Aug. 1, police say Blaser deliberately rammed his red Ford Escort into an SUV that had seven child passengers inside. He is also accused of beating on the driver's side window and ripping off the SUV's side-view mirror. From this incident, Blaser faces charges of felonious assault and malicious destruction of property.
