Riverfront Will Be Backdrop For Veterans Day Parade, Vets Fest Saturday
DETROIT (WWJ) - The Detroit Veterans Day parade is celebrating its 10th anniversary Saturday along the riverfront. And for the first time, there's a post-parade festival. The Fifth Third Vets Fest will be at Hart Plaza. There's a lot of music, food, and fun on tap. Parade manager and Army veteran Phil Harrison says it also gives people a chance for civilians to say 'thanks.'
"A simple thank you really goes a long way -- I appreciate it and I know a lot of the other veterans appreciate," said Harrison. "Talking with them - their stories - a lot of times people just talk about different military bases or other military that they have had in their family and their experiences."
Harrison said there will be a commemorative ceremony, entertainment, music, food, information for support on veterans issues.
It's free and everyone is invited. The parade begins at 10 a.m. Saturday along Chene and Jefferson and ends at Hart Plaza, where Vets Fest runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. November 7. [MORE DETAILS]
