Reward Rises In Investigation Of Judge's Shooting In Detroit
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A reward for information that solves the shooting of a federal judge has been raised by 40 percent to $35,000.
Terrence Berg is recovering, a week after being shot in the leg in front of his northwest Detroit home on Oak Drive, near 7 Mile and Livernois just north of the University of Detroit Mercy. The 55-year-old judge was walking back inside after taking out the garbage when two young men demanded to get into his house.
A struggle ensued, during which one of the suspects opened fire, striking Berg in the right thigh. The assailants then fled the scene in a black vehicle, likely a Chrysler 300 or Dodge Charger.
The suspects are described as African-American males, approximately 18- to 20-years old.
Federal firearm agents have joined the investigation. Authorities have said they don't believe the attack was related to Berg's work.
President Barack Obama appointed Berg in 2012. Before that, Berg served as an assistant U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan. He's currently assigned to the Flint federal courthouse.
Anyone with information on the suspects or the shooting is urged to contact the FBI at 313-965-2323.
