Reward Offered For Tips In West Side Detroit Murder

DETROIT (WWJ) - Crime Stoppers of Michigan is offering a $2,500 reward for help in solving a murder that occurred on July 18.

The 48-year-old Shawn "Jahi" Brooks was found fatally wounded at about 3 a.m. on the 6800-block of Longacre on Detroit's west side.

Brooks' family spoke to the media on Thursday.

"We are going to hunt down these criminals every single day like the animals they are 'til we get this adjudicated for Shawn Brooks," said the victim's uncle, Jerry Dale. "We're doing anything possible. We're going to hunt them down like when President George Bush said he was hunting down the Al-Qaeda network, that's what we're gonna do."

Dale said he thinks somebody knows something, since police received several 911 calls after the shooting.

"The problem is we have this no snitch policy in the city of Detroit that's not allowing the police to solve these murders because nobody wants to get involved," he said.

Anyone who knows anything about this crime is asked call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK UP. You can also text your tip to CRIMES (274637).
