Reward Increased To $150K In Slaying Of Grosse Pointe Farms Teen
GROSSE POINTE FARMS (WWJ) -- A $150,000 reward is being offered for information in the fatal shooting of a Grosse Pointe Farms teen who was killed in Detroit three days before Christmas.
The reward for information in the murder case of 16-year-old Paige Stalker has grown from the $100,000 figure offered back on December 29.
Police say five teenagers were in a vehicle parked on Philip Street just south of Charlevoix Street, near the Detroit border with Grosse Pointe Park, when a late-model tan Cadillac pulled up, and a man got out and started firing an automatic weapon.
As many as 30 shots were fired into the vehicle, one fatally striking Stalker. Three others — a 16-year-old boy, a 15-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl — received gunshot wounds. A 15-year-old girl who was uninjured in the gunfire jumped into the driver's seat and drove her friends to a nearby hospital.
Detroit police chief James Craig said that he wants to see the case solved.
"Some cases we can close rather quickly, it just depends on what evidence we have, it depends on witnesses, and certainly this is a challenging case," Craig said.
Stalker's mother, Jennifer, thanked friends, family and the community for the support given to the family and said that they held a birthday party for Paige earlier in the week.
The money is being provided by anonymous donors along with a $12,000 reward from Crime Stoppers.
Police are searching for the gunman, described as a black male about 6-feet tall, wearing a bulletproof vest and army fatigues.
Anyone with information is urged to contact police at 313-596-2200 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
