Rest Could Help Cabrera Return To Third
3B Miguel Cabrera was not in Detroit's starting lineup Sunday, the hope being a game off combined with Monday's off day would have him ready to return to third base Tuesday night in Kansas City. "What's good for Miguel Cabrera is good for the Tigers," manager Jim Leyland said. Cabrera was the DH two games in a row after having to come out of a game with a right ankle sprain Thursday. It was the first time this season Cabrera was not in Detroit's starting lineup and the first game he's missed. "At the end of the day you do what's in your gut," Leyland said. "I could tell as soon as I saw him that he wasn't feeling real good. I want to make it clear, Miguel Cabrera did not ask for a day off. I decided. I'm pretty confident Miguel Cabrera will be able to play third in Kansas City. But is it set in stone? No. It wouldn't be the end of the world if I have to DH him one more game. I just don't want to because it changes our lineup, the way I want it to look."
