Rescue Crews Save 8 Dogs From Burning Home
KALAMAZOO (WWJ/AP) - Rescue crews saved eight dogs including six puppies from a burning mobile home in southwestern Michigan.
Kalamazoo Public Safety says officers responded to the scene Sunday evening along with firefighters from Portage Public Safety and the Comstock Township Fire Department. When they arrived they found the fire burning in a front bedroom, with smoke filling the home on the 400 block of S. Deadwood.
Officers were able to rescue the dogs — an adult lab and American bulldog and their offspring — while additional crews extinguished the fire.
Officials said a few of the puppies appeared to have been suffering from smoke inhalation and were given oxygen by Comstock Township firefighters.
Investigators said it appears that the dogs knocked over a lamp, starting the blaze. The home's human residents weren't there at the time of the fire.
All of the dogs were expected to make a full recovery.
