FBI: Arrest Unrelated To $500,000 Armored Truck Heist Outside Greektown Casino
DETROIT (WWJ) - Authorities say an arrest that reports were linking to the theft of more than a half-million dollars from an armored truck parked outside Greektown Casino is actually unrelated to the case.
FBI officials told WWJ Newsradio Wednesday morning that Detroit police may have taken a suspect into custody, but that arrest has nothing to do with their investigation into the Greektown armored car heist.
The FBI said a Violent Crime Task Force made up of multiple law enforcement agencies is still trying to locate a suspect in the Greektown case.
That suspect was wearing a security guard uniform when he grabbed bags of cash from the Loomis Armored vehicle around 8 a.m. Friday. No weapons were used and no one was injured, but the suspect made off with more than $500,000.
The FBI has taken the lead in investigating the theft.
Anyone with information on the case is urged to contact the FBI at 313-965-2323 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
