Verlander To Start All-Star Game
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (WWJ) - A pretty nice honor for a Detroit Tigers' star involving the All-Star Game.
WWJ's Tony Ortiz says that according to a number of published reports, it looks like Detroit Tigers pitching ace Justin Verlander will be the choice of American League Manager Ron Washington to get the start for the American League in Tuesday night's All-Star Game in Kansas City.
"That's not my call, and if Ron decides to call my name to start the game, I'll be more than excited," Verlander said. "But, I'm just gonna fill my role and hopefully, do a part to try and win a ball game."
Verlander is a five-time all-star, and he is 4-and-1 with an ERA of 2.40 in his last 6 starts.
But, Ortiz says there are a couple of other possibilities:
Tampa Bay's David Price and Chris Sale of the Chicago White Sox.
Washington -- of the Texas Rangers -- is expected to make the official announcement at a news conference later today.
