Report Says Dennis Rodman Is 'Broke And Extremely Sick'
DETROIT (97.1 The Ticket) The tales of Dennis Rodman's storied life have yet again taken a twist. According to his agent the former Detroit Pistons star is "broke" and "extremely sick" and can't pay his child and spousal support payments.
Rodman, 49, faces up to 20 days in jail for failure to pay spousal and child support, according to an attorney of his ex wife featured in the L.A. Times. Rodman owed $808,935 in back payments for his 9-and 10-year-old kids he had with his third wife. Rodman also owes $51,441 in back spousal report. Ex-wife Michelle Rodman is also looking for attorney fees.
According to Rodman's attorney, Linnea Willis, Rodman is barely able to to pay for his living expenses. Rodman's attorney also says Rodman is "extremely sick" and his marketability is diminishing with age and illness, according to court documents.
Rodman played with the Pistons from 1986-1993. While with the Pistons, Rodman won two NBA Championships as well as appearing in the All-Star game in 1990 and 1992. He was the NBA's Defensive Player of the Year in 1989-90 and 1990-91 seasons.
He made waves on and off the court, dating pop superstar Madonna, throwing a parade featuring himself in full makeup and a bridal gown, getting elaborate tattooes and headline-making hairstyles. Most recently, Rodman appeared on the VH1 reality show "Celebrity Rehab" with Dr. Drew in 2009, where he revealed his alcoholism, started recovery and tried to make amends with family. He was also admitted into rehab in 2008 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., after a domestic violence charge.
One year ago, Detroit sports fans showed Rodman an outpouring of love when his jersey was retired at the Palace of Auburn Hills.
"I didn't expect none of this crap. You know it's like I just expected to play, I didn't expect to win anything. Just to play is more than anything in the world," Rodman said at the time.
