Report: Rick Porcello Agrees To 4-Year, $82.5 Million Extension With Red Sox

Just one day into the regular season -- and even before his first start -- the Boston Red Sox have seemingly seen enough good things from former Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Rick Porcello.
Alex Speier of the Boston Globe reported Monday that the 26-year-old and the Red Sox have reached a four-year, $82.5 million extension, averaging just over $20 million annually.
Porcello wrote a letter announcing his extension on the website The Players' Tribune -- which was founded by Derek Jeter.
Porcello was traded to the Red Sox for outfielder Yoenis Cespedes during the Winter Meetings in December. Porcello recorded a 3.43 ERA over 204.2 innings in 2014. He spent all six of his previous MLB seasons in Detroit, posting a 76-63 record with a 4.30 ERA.
