Report: Red Wings Look To Make Babcock Highest-Paid Coach With 4 Or 5-Year Extension

Detroit Red Wings coach Mike Babcock recently earned career wins No. 500 and 501 with victories over the New York Rangers and the Carolina Hurricanes over the weekend. Now it looks like he may cash in on the success he's had in Detroit since being hired in 2005.
Mark J. Burns, sports business contributor for Forbes.com, linked TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger with a report that the Red Wings front office will look to make Babcock the highest paid NHL coach within next few days by offering him a four or five-year extension.
Babcock signed a four-year extension with the Red Wings in 2010, which expires at the end of the 2014-2015 campaign. The Red Wings have made the playoffs in each of Babcock's nine of the seasons as coach, including a Stanley Cup title in his third season in 2008.
The Red Wings currently sit atop the Atlantic Division.
