Report: Red Wings Add Former Oilers Captain To Front Office

The Red Wings made an interesting off-the-ice move on Friday, reportedly hiring long-time Edmonton Oiler Shawn Horcoff to work in their player development department. Horcoff was a four-year star at Michigan State in the late '90s.
Horcoff retired at the end of the 2015-16 season, his 14th in the NHL. He finished with 186 goals and 511 points. He was known as a strong-two way center, gaining occasional support for the Selke Trophy, awarded to the league's best defensive forward.
At Michigan State, Horcoff racked up 152 points in 155 games. He helped the Spartans capture back-to-back conference championships in 1998 and 1999. These days, the British Columbia native calls Michigan home.
Horcoff played just 59 games last season for Anaheim as a result of a 20-game suspension he received for violating the league's drug policy. He clarified afterward it was an unintentional breach of terms.
"While recovering from an injury I suffered this past fall, I tried a treatment that I believed would help speed up the healing process," Horcoff said in a statement. "Although I was unaware that this treatment was not permitted under NHL rules, that is no excuse whatsoever."
