Report: Pistons Interested In Ryan Anderson
DETROIT (CBS Detroit) -- Stan Van Gundy has shown that he's not afraid to upgrade his team. The Detroit Pistons have gone under a complete overhaul since the new president and head coach came to town.
One piece that he may be looking to add next is a starting power forward, Zach Lowe said on The Lowe Post podcast. Lowe mentioned a couple players who might be in the mix, including New Orleans Pelicans' forward Ryan Anderson and Donatas Motiejunas of the Houston Rockets.
"They want a four in free agency this summer, the Pistons, really badly," Lowe said. "They're going to look at Stan's old friend Ryan Anderson. I've heard they're hot on Motiejunas from Houston who's always hurt. So, who knows how hot they actually are?"
The Pelicans have had a disappointing season and could be looking to move Anderson -- a reserve in coach Alvin Gentry's lineup -- and his expiring contract before the trade deadline on Feb. 18 at 3 p.m.
Anderson, 27, played for Van Gundy in Orlando from 2009 to 2012 and thrived as a "stretch four" in his "four-out, one-in" system.
The Pistons could also chase Anderson in free agency this summer, as the team will have an upwards of $20 million to spend.
Motiejunas will also be a free agent this summer. The 25-year-old Lithuanian has struggled in the NBA, bouncing between the pros and the D-League for a few years before being sidelined with a back injury this season.
