MSU Coach Recuperating After Heart Attack
Michigan State head football coach Mark Dantonio will remain hospitalized at Lansing's Sparrow Hospital for the next few days after suffering a mild heart attack.
Dantonio was admitted to the hospital's emergency room early Sunday morning, following his team's thrilling 34-31 overtime win over Notre Dame.
The Spartans used an audacious fake field goal play called "Little Giants'' to steal the victory from Notre Dame in Saturday night's game.
Dr. Chris D'Haem, DO, an interventional cardiologist with Thoracic and Cardiovascular Institute (TCI) and Sparrow, performed a cardiac catheterization procedure on Dantonio to open a blocked blood vessel leading to the heart. Dr. D'Haem says "the procedure was successful and blood flow to the heart muscle was restored."
Dantonio is expected to make a full recovery.
According to a press release from MSU, Dantonio's return to the sidelines will be determined at a later date. During his recovery, offensive coordinator Don Treadwell will manage the day-to-day responsibilities of the head coach.
