Report: Dolphins, Colts Among Favorites To Land Suh

CBS DETROIT - The Miami Dolphins and the Indianapolis Colts are expected to heavily pursue All-Pro defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh when the three-day negotiating period prior to the start of free agency begins Saturday, according to Rand Getlin of Yahoo.

"A source close to Suh's camp indicated Suh had a slight preference for Miami," Getlin wrote Thursday, "though the Detroit Lions and Colts aren't far behind."

The Jacksonville Jaguars and the Oakland Raiders, two teams with copious amounts of cap space, were among the early speculated favorites to land Suh. Depending on how his deal is structured, however, Suh could go to just about any team that is willing to make him the most highly paid defensive player in the league. Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt set the market with a $100 million deal - including $51.8 million guaranteed - when he re-signed with his team in September.

Suh reportedly wants the distinction of making more than any other defensive player in the league, but winning is important to him, too. While the Jaguars and Raiders have both struggled on the field in recent years, the Dolphins have mostly hovered around the .500 mark since 2009, and the Colts are a perennial contender. The Lions have a tradition of losing, but they won 11 games in 2014 under new head coach Jim Caldwell.

Suh can sign with another team as soon as 4 p.m. Tuesday, when 2014 player contracts expire and free agency officially begins.
