Report: Deadline Of Sept. 15 Set For Preseason
David Stern said a few weeks ago that he'd have an idea whether or not games were going to be missed this season by Labor Day. And with bargaining session coming sometime early in September, you can see why. If that goes well, then maybe a deal can get done in time for training camps. If not, then say goodbye to preseason. (I know, so sad.)
But now, according to HoopsWorld, the league has set a deadline of Sept. 15 before games are cancelled (meaning preseason still). If a deal isn't made before then, training camps and preseason games are gone for the 2011-12 season.
Interesting note: Losing even just one preseason game could have a pretty hefty economic impact on the league.
Sources have also said that if even one Pre-season game is lost, the economic impact would be the same as if all the preseason games are lost. It would be a trigger a point in which league advertisers and sponsors could and would start pulling back and season ticketholders would likely start asking for refunds.
I don't know if you know this, but Sept. 15 is just 17 days away. In other words, not far off. And somehow the league and the players, two groups that a billions of dollars apart, are supposed to come to an agreement? Yep, peace out preseason.
