Report: Cutting Medicaid Would Mean Lost Jobs
DETROIT (WWJ) - A new report says cutting Medicaid in Michigan would not only hurt people who need health care it could cost jobs.
Ron Pollack from the group "Families U.S.A" says the budget proposal that would ultimately cut Medicaid payments to Michigan by 33 percent would also cost the state nearly $6 billion in business activity.
"Cutting Medicaid funds not only hurts seniors, people with disabilities and children who count on the program as their lifeline, but also results in fewer jobs and stunts economic growth," said Pollack.
"This is exactly the wrong time for Congress to cut a program that boosts the economy while also providing a boost to individuals and families facing hard economic times," he said.
The report also says that the proposal would cost Michigan and the other 49 states... more than 90 billion dollars in health care funds for the un-insured.
