Report: Cabrera Made Threats, Told Police To Shoot Him
DETROIT (WWJ) - More details are emerging about last month's arrest of Detroit Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera.
The Florida state attorney's office has obtained information from a 911 call made from a bar, prior to Cabrera's February 16th arrest on DUI and other charges in St. Lucie County, Florida. The information is posted on TheSmokingGun.com.
97-1 The Ticket's Jeff Riger reported that the web site offers details of what happened earlier in the night of his arrest.
"Miguel Cabrera walked into, it was kind of a Country Western bar, from what I understand or what the report says. He walked in, the man at the door greeted him and said the place was closed. Miguel Cabrera decided not to pay any attention to him. He walked past, talked to patrons," Riger said.
Riger told WWJ that, according to the report, the bar employee then approached Cabrera, and again told him the place was closed.
"Cabrera, apparently, crouched down next to him and said, 'I will kill you.' And then the looked at the patrons and said 'I will kill them,' and then he said, 'I will blow this place up'," Riger said.
The bar manager called police, who pursued and pulled over the ballplayer. The report says that when Port St. Lucie officers instructed Cabrera to drop to his knees so they could handcuff him, he told them "Shoot me. Kill me."
The Florida State Attorney General's office is investigating this new information. Cabrera faces arraignment March 16th. His Florida attorney said Cabrera intends to fight the charges against him.
