Remembering Local Heroes At The Dream Cruise
There's a somber side to the Woodward Dream Cruise.
Hazel Park Police officer Joe Roeder on Saturday will be driving a special police-memorial up and down Woodward all day. It's a brand new, silver, Jaguar XJL bearing the names of Michigan police officers killed in the line of duty: Officer Chuck Armour of Detroit, and Livonia Police officer Larry Nehasil (among others.)
Roeder says, "It's our memorial car for the Dream Cruise. It's for fallen officers. For their families. It's to remember them. It's a statement."
The car was donated for duty in the Dream Cruise by Jaguar of Troy. It's been specially fitted with police lights and a siren.
The artwork on the car has been done free of charge by Marci Hurst of Majik Graphics in Clinton Township.
"We just have pride about it. Honoring the guys who have passed. Everybody feels for their families. They're not forgotten" Hurst says.
Officer Armour died in Detroit June 11 after being hit by a wrong-way vehicle in Greektown. He was 40.
Officer Nehasil was shot and killed in January while conducting surveillance. He was 48.
