Regional Commuter Bus Rolls Over, Kills Driver
MOUNT MORRIS (WWJ/AP) - A bus driver was pulled under the vehicle's wheels and killed as she tried to stop it from rolling through a Flint-area parking lot.
Police say 48-year-old Holly Wilson, of Davison, was killed after finishing her route around noon Wednesday outside a Save-A-Lot store in Mount Morris.
Investigators say Wilson put the parking brake on, but forgot to put the bus into neutral when she stopped in the store's parking lot.
According to witness statements, Wilson exited the bus but tried to get back on when the bus began to roll away.
Police say Wilson fell down when a front tire rolled over one of her feet and was then pulled beneath the bus as it started to turn. Witnesses told police a citizen nearby tried to pull her out, but was unable to.
According to police, Wilson was run over again by the bus, this time by its rear tires. The bus stopped rolling after striking two other vehicles.
Wilson was rushed to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Mass Transportation Authority General Manager Ed Benning described Wilson's death as a "freak accident." He said Wilson had been with them for five years, the last three of which she was a full-time driver.
