Red Wings Score Big With Kids At C.S. Mott Children's Hospital
ANN ARBOR (WWJ) - Some patients at Ann Arbor's C.S. Mott Children's Hospital received a special treat Tuesday ... a visit from the Red Wings.
About eight players made the rounds visiting children who will spend their holiday in the hospital this year.
Patient Hunter Tyson says they didn't look quite like he expected.
"I thought they were going to have their helmets and that ... pretty cool," said Tyson.
Forward Gustav Nyquist volunteered to help put a smile on the childrens' faces.
"Yeah, of course, it's tough to see, but it's a nice feeling when you come out here and just bring a little bit of a smile to their day and they get a little bit excited and it's worth everything about it. It's a really nice feeling that we can come out and do this," said Nyquist.
"I've got a lot of friends that are going to be pretty jealous," said Jonathan Murphy, a patient at the hospital, after meeting some of the Red Wings.
"I like to watch, it's cool," said 7-year-old patient Faith Falzone, when asked about watching hockey games.
The Wings gave out autographed calendars and other treats.
Wings forward Drew Miller volunteered for the visit:
"Definitely, around the holidays, it's tough for them and their families ... being in the hospital, it's something easy for us to come here and go room to room," said Miller.
"Kind of get them away from the atmosphere ... anything we can do to come in here and kind of take them away from that for a minute, two minutes, five minutes - I think it means a lot to them."

Detroit Red Wings fans will have the opportunity to meet four-time Stanley Cup champion Darren McCarty at five area book signings he will conduct in Allen Park, Ann Arbor, Roseville, Shelby Twp and Troy.
McCarty will be signing copies of his new autobiography My Last Fight: The True Story of a Hockey Rock Star.
