In the wake of the Red Wings' second-round loss to the San Jose Sharks, just remember: This was supposed to be the year.
Not the year the Wings won the Cup (though that was possible). It was supposed to be the year that the Wings' two-decade run as a playoff team ended. They battled injuries and bad luck and tired, struggling stars and a condensed schedule after making two straight Stanley Cup runs. That was a 1-2-3-4 punch that would have knocked out virtually every other team in the NHL.
