Red Wings' Chris Osgood Starts Season Off Right
Chris Osgood moved within three victories of 400 in his NHL career over the weekend, but more important, he did so with a performance that should instill confidence that he has emerged from a two-season slump.
Osgood, who turns 38 on Nov. 26, barely played the last half of last season. That wasn't ideal for him or the Red Wings, but it was necessary because he didn't play well when he did get in, and the team didn't have any leeway because of the playoff race.
Fortuitously enough for Osgood, this season began with a back-to-back, and so after Jimmy Howard started the opener, Osgood played in Game 2. The result: 26 saves made on 28 shots in a 3-2 victory in the Blackhawks' building on a Saturday night that began with the defending Stanley Cup champions getting pumped watching their banner rising. Osgood made eight saves in the third period and earned praise from his coach and captain.
