Red Wings 5, Blue Jackets 2
COLUMBUS (WWJ) - Three power play goals help the Detroit Red Wings to beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-2 on Friday night.
As heard on 97.1 The Ticket - the Red Wings are off to their best start since the 1972/73 season with a 5-0-0 start as the Blue Jackets fall to 0-6-1 on the season.
"Howie was good and I thought the power play was good," said head coach Mike Babcock post game.
Johan Franzen put in two powerplay goals and an assist to help lead the Red Wings to the win over Columbus. Franzen had a chance for a hat-trick but passed the puck to Valtteri Filppula for the empty netter.
Detroit's Pavel Datsyuk put in the only goal of the second period and Detroit was up 3-1.
Derick Brassard and Aaron Johnson each put in a goal for the Blue Jackets but it wasn't enough as the Wings dominated offensively.
Speaking postgame to Jeff Riger on The Ticket, goalie Jimmy Howard was asked about this season verses last: "There's a lot more communication in the D zone."
Howard had 32 saves and allowed two goals but the Blue Jackets goalie Steve Mason was hit hard allowing four goals with 16 saves with an empty net goal in the final minutes of the game.
