DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A five-run third inning by the Red Sox put the Tigers in a hole they could not dig out of, as the Detroit Tigers lose to the Boston Red Sox 6-3 on Friday night.
As heard post game on 97.1 The Ticket the Tigers fall back to the .500 mark with the second loss to the Red Sox in as many nights.
Jacoby Ellsbury and Carl Crawford homered in the five-run third inning for Boston.
Rick Porcello (4-3) gave up a season-high six runs in three innings in his first start since allowing one hit in eight innings in a win over Pittsburgh.
Rookie Charlie Furbush kept the Tigers in the game with five shutout innings of relief. He has not allowed a run in 8 2-3 innings in his first two major-league appearances.
Boston won for the 12th time in 14 games and have scored 34 runs in its last three.
Tim Wakefield (2-1) picked up his 195th career win, allowing two runs on five hits in seven innings.
