Recall Of 3 Million Airbags By Nissan, Honda And Mazda

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - Three more car companies have joined in a big airbag recall.

This adds roughly three million airbags from Nissan, Honda and Mazda to earlier recalls from other manufacturers, bringing the total to roughly ten million says WWJ Autobeat reporter Jeff Gilbert.

The bags were all manufactured by one supplier; Takata, a Japanese supplier. The concern is they could explode without warning, and even catch fire.

No injuries have been reported.

In April WWJ reported - that four Japanese carmakers had recalled a total of 3.4 million vehicles because of airbag problems. The recall impacted a number of models from Toyota, Honda, Nissan and Mazda.

"The reason all four carmakers are reporting the same problem is they all have the same supplier," said Katie Kerwin of AutoBeat Daily.
