Rangers Take Game 1 From Tigers

ARLINGTON, Texas (WWJ/AP) - Two rain delays within two hours didn't help the cause as the Detroit Tigers lose to the Texas Rangers 3-2 on Saturday night in Game 1 of the ALCS.

As heard on 97.1 The Ticket - the Tigers came back from the first rain delay and quickly put two runs on the board in the fifth inning -- with bases loaded and two out --- a second rain delay was called, and the Tigers seemed to lose momentum with the rain delays that totaled almost two hours.

Starting pitcher Justin Verlander was visibly ticked about the calls from behind the plate, and following up with a talk with the home plate umpire after giving up a solo run to Nelson Cruz - who broke a post season slump with the homer.

In between the delays, Austin Jackson doubled in a run and scored on a wild pitch by Rangers starter C.J. Wilson. Alexi Ogando, the only Texas pitcher to beat the Tigers during the regular season, pitched two scoreless innings for the win.

The defending AL champion Rangers scored all their runs off Verlander before the game was interrupted twice for a total of 1 hour, 50 minutes in the top of the fifth.

David Murphy hit an RBI single in the second and scored on Ian Kinsler's single, and Cruz's leadoff homer in the fourth made it 3-0.
