Random Thought's By Matt Dery
1. I am happy for Lions fans. When was the last time the team played a "must-see" Thanksgiving Day game? The Packers come to town at 10-0 and Detroit has some momentum after Sunday's win over the Panthers. The Lions are a playoff team, now it is time to show the rest of the country.
2. The key to this game is containing Randall Cobb in the return game. The Lions coverage units on kicks and punts have been their biggest weak spot all year. Cobb has wheels and for a rookie is very good at finding a seam and running through it.
3. Brady Hoke is the Big Ten coach of the year in my opinion.
Michigan has a chance to finish 10-2 and play in a BCS-Bowl game. The mess that he inherited warrants this honor for Hoke. With that being said, U of M does not belong in that type of bowl game. I understand how the system works, but that does not mean I have to agree with it. I think there are better teams out there, but again, it's a flawed selection system and a popularity contest.
4. I think U of M beats Ohio State this weekend for one reason:
Tackling. Over the past three years, the Buckeyes have rammed the football down the Wolverines' throats. Nothing fancy and the guys in maize and blue could not stop them. Plus, Michigan has been extremely poor tackling ball carriers. Not the case this season under Greg Mattison.
5. With the NBA on hiatus, I have watched a ton of College Basketball over the past couple of weeks. I love the game to begin with, but obviously now have more time on my hands to catch some games. The Maui Invitational this week has been great and kudos to John Beilein for landing a recruit like Trey Burke. The freshman guard out of Ohio is the real deal.
6. I checked out a few minutes of the American Music Awards the other night and then had to turn the channel. But, I will admit I like LMFAO.
