Random Thoughts By Matt Dery
1. I believe Michigan will beat Michigan State tomorrow at Crisler.
The Wolverines play as a team, play together, and are having a lot of fun. There is chemistry there that MSU just does not have this year. Just look at the comments that Tom Izzo made to the fans the other night on senior night. Izzo is a master and one of the best coaches in the country, but, even he knows his team has to somehow "find a way to win" this weekend in Ann Arbor. That is an indictment on his guys that they have underachieved and simply do not have the chemistry right now that its rival has.
2. How much fun was last night in Miami? The "Heatles" gag away another big lead and lose to Orlando. MMMMMMM.
3. He is a 27 year old "journeyman" yet Will Rhymes has impressed me.
I'd open with him at second base if I was Jim Leyland. I like his approach.
4. Kudos to Greg Monroe. The Pistons big man admitted the other night that he has hit the rookie wall and is tired, yet, he is playing through it and is not missing a beat. His numbers continue to rise and he attacks the rim on the offensive glass with smarts and effort.
This season has been a giant mess for Detroit; yet, Monroe has kept his wits about him and has been a model citizen.
5. Great to have Pat Caputo back at WXYT this week. For those of you that did not know, Pat was out for a few weeks after undergoing some surgery and he was missed. I told Pat last night that he is almost the "Mayor" of this area as he constantly defends Detroit and SE Michigan and brings that type of love for this community to the airwaves every day. He also loves his guy Rip Hamilton. LOL!
6. Good luck tonight to the Detroit Titans. UDM plays in the Horizon League Quarterfinals in Milwaukee against Valpo. Three wins and Ray McCallum will have UDM back in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1999. This is a talented group and they have a shot. Also, props to Greg Kampe and Oakland U for dominating the Summit. That is a very good program up in Rochester.
