Random Thoughts By Matt Dery
1. Sometimes I just don't understand Detroit sports fans and media. The Tigers just keep losing and are a major letdown with a very high payroll, yet, they seem to avoid major criticism. Then you have the Pistons, who are openly rebuilding and for sale, and they get mocked and told they have low value. Whether you like NBA in this town or not, this franchise has done nothing but win and now they take a step back and it is "open season". What have the Tigers won? Mike Illitch wants to spend spend spend again this winter and everyone is excited? For what?
2. I am not a big Tracy McGrady fan. I do not like how he conducted himself last season in Houston (going public against Rick Adelman's reluctance to play him) and I am not sure how much gas he has left in the tank. But, a one year flyer for 1.3 million is a smart move and here is why.. IF T-Mac excels the Pistons can win more games or move him at the deadline to a contender and get future value in return. Arnie Kander, by the way, has already spent a couple of days with McGrady and we saw what the Pistons strength and conditioning coach did with Ben Wallace last season.
3. I really like the Lions offense this season. I am real worried about the Lions cornerback spot.
4. Jhonny Peralta is hitting .158 in his last 10 games and .200 since joining the Tigers. That is all. I will not comment any further.
5. Is it bad that the song "Dynamite" by Taio Cruz is in my head at least 3 days a week?
