Rally In Detroit To Honor Dr. King Legacy
DETROIT (WWJ) - There was a major rally in downtown Detroit to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. who was assassinated 43 years ago on April 4, and to continue his fight for worker's rights.
Many of those attending the rally outside the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center were retirees concerned about the idea of taxing pensions taking root.
"It's just a take over, it's a take over in the city of Detroit of everything," says retiree Jacqueline Smith to WWJ's Pat Sweeting.
"I was in the March on Washington on 1963, so I know what it is to be peaceful and everything and right now I'm sharing information with everybody here to be prayerful and march in one accord," says Smith.
Smith calls for the people to honor Rev.King's memory by coming together to fight such a take over peacefully.
