Rain May Slow Search For 9-Year-Old Autistic Boy Missing Since 4th Of July

DAVISON TWP. (WWJ/AP) - Police say rain may slow search efforts for a 9-year-old boy reported missing following a Fourth of July gathering at a Flint-area park.

Omarion Humphrey has been missing since Saturday evening from Lake Callis Recreation Complex in Genesee County's Davison Township. An Amber Alert was issued for the child, who authorities say is severely autistic and may not speak but answers to the name "Mars."

Hundreds of law enforcement officials and volunteers have searched for the boy since Saturday. Davison Township Police Lt. Jay Rendon said rain might slow their efforts, but it's not going to stop them.

"We're going to keep pushing until the weather knocks us down," he told The Flint Journal.

Originally from Pontiac, Omarion was living with foster care parents. His biological mother, Keisha Humphery, said Omarion has never run off before.

"He's the type of kid, you have to keep an eye on him. He wouldn't run off, but you have to keep an eye on him to make sure that he's not where he's not supposed to be," Humphery told WWJ's Jon Hewett. "I think someone probably took him and they (foster parents) were not watching."

Humphery said she blames the state for her son's disappearance.

"The state of Michigan failed. They failed miserably and they know it," she said. "There's no way -- they're saying that he needed to be in care somewhere else but they lose him. You trusted somebody to lose him."

The Lake Callis Recreation Complex is closed amid the search, which has included air and dive teams from multiple law enforcement agencies along with hundreds of citizen volunteers.

"The last time we saw him was 5:09 p.m. Saturday. This sidewalk here, he was seen on camera walking toward the splash pad and that's the last time he was seen," said Rendon. "At this point, we're not ruling anything out. At this point, he's missing and all the options are open."

Omarion is about 4-feet tall and 70 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing only black shorts with a thin, red stripe — no shirt and no shoes.

Anyone who thinks they've seen Omarion should immediately call 911. Anyone with other information is urged to contact police at 810-732-4720.
