Quilter Takes Home Top Honors In Grand Rapids' ArtPrize
GRAND RAPIDS (WWJ) - A quilter inspired by a Lake Michigan lakeshore near her home was declared the winner Friday of the $200,000 ArtPrize competition.
Ann Loveless of Frankfort, Mich., won the public voting at the annual 19-day event in Grand Rapids, which ends Sunday. Her quilt is titled "Sleeping Bear Dune Lakeshore," named for a national lakeshore in northern Michigan.
Loveless is the first quilter, the second Michigander and the third woman to take home the first prize in the 5TH annual competition.
Anni Crouter of Flint, took home the second prize, 75,000 for "Polar Expressed."
