Quick Tips For DIY Halloween Makeup
SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - It's not just about the costume this Halloween -- it's about the makeup.
As WWJ's Kathryn Larson reports, Halloween makeup can turn into quite a fright if it's not done right.
Astute Artistry stopped by CBS Detroit studios in Southfield to show parents and their little ones how to paint a face in twenty minutes or less.
"At Halloween, you get to be very creative and step outside of the box, as opposed to doing beauty makeup," said makeup artist Lisa Glickoff. "You have a little bit more creativity, there's a little bit more expression and there's a lot of different products that you get to use around Halloween that you can't use throughout the year."
Glickoff, who has been in the makeup business for decades, said you don't have to be professional to pull off a great look for Halloween.
"The top two tips is number one, create the outline first. Once you have the outline, you can fill it in. Also, don't worry about the lines being perfect to start. Go ahead and get all of your bulk of the color in and go back over it with your outline color and just perfect it," Glickoff said.
Of course, walking around in all face paint is sure to get a little irritating and start to itch. If that happens, Glickoff said you don't want to rub your face, or else you'll smudge your makeup and ruin the look. What you want to do instead is take a damp cloth and blot the itch.
If you're having trouble deciding on what to paint, inspiration can come from a simple google image search.
"For example, Josie right here said she wanted to be a butterfly, and there is so many images of butterflies, so we went into Google together and picked one out which I think is, you know, a win-win, everybody's happy that way," Glickoff said.
