Pugh Fires Aide After Arrest
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - City Council President Charles Pugh has fired an aide arrested for fleeing from Detroit police.
Vaughn Antoine Arrington was fired Wednesday, the same day he was placed in custody after officers say they saw him driving above the speed limit.
Detroit Police say they attempted to stop Arrington for speeding near the intersection of Alcoy and Greiner, but he took off, forcing a chase. He was apprehended a short time later.
Authorities say the 29-year-old posted bond after being charged with reckless driving.
Arrington spent the past year working as Pugh's executive assistant. His salary was about $17 per hour.
Arrington also was convicted of carjacking and armed robbery as a teenager, and has had his driver's license suspended three times in two years.
Pugh said this week Arrington appeared to have turned his life around and was given a second chance.
