Prosecutor: Man Molested Coma Patient
DETROIT (WWJ) - A Detroit man faces charges after a witness said he had sexual contact with a coma patient. The 49-year old Cornell Lowman has been charged with Criminal Sexual Conduct 4th Degree and Habitual 4th Offender.
Prosecutors alleged that Lowman was visiting another person at a nursing home on East Grand Boulevard when he went into the room of a 65-year-old female coma patient and sexually assaulted her.
Prosecutors said Lowman was observed by a witness who immediately contacted the police. He was arrested at the scene.
"The alleged behavior in this case is just not something you want to think about when your loved one is in a nursing home," said Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy in a statement.
"In this case people in the home acted swiftly and appropriately in reporting it right away. Our aim is to make sure that justice to this victim is just as swift," she said.
Lowman was arraigned at 36th District Court Tuesday afternoon and received a $100,000 cash or surety bond. A preliminary examination was set for of May 2.
Lowman could face up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
