Proposed Program Would Aid Unemployed, Homeless
CLINTON TWP. (WWJ) - Some new help could be coming for people looking for jobs in Metro Detroit.
WWJ Newsradio 950 talked with Peter Orlando, President of Quality International Systems in Clinton Township. He wants to take over a building near Wayne State University, and transform it to house a training program that would help the unemployed, underemployed and homeless.
"Teaching them the quality aspects of manufacturing and running them through a cycle where their skill sets can be brought-up; not just work skill-sets, but even resume writing -- all of the things that would make them a valuable employee in another company," said Orlando.
Orlando said he's looking to corporations like Boeing and other manufacturers to explore what help they can offer to help put people into available jobs
"With the retirements, with the buy-outs, with the economy going down, people moved away, went into the service sectors," said Orlando. "They've left the manufacturing."
"Now, manufacturing's out there in Michigan. The jobs market is moving forward and we're seeing the contracts coming in, but the companies don't have the workforce," he said.
Orlando said he's also been talking to U.S. Senator Carl Levin's office.
