Prince Fielder Talks With Valenti And Foster About Signing With Detroit

After the jubilant press conference where he donned the Detroit Tigers jersey for the first time, Detroit's new Prince Fielder called into Valenti and Foster to talk about his new gig.

Asking what was on the mind of many Detroit sports fans, Foster dug right in and asked Fielder "what the heck happened" to bring him to Detroit.

"I wanted to be here and we got it done," Fielder simply said.

So, would he have accepted less money than the blockbuster deal he was offered to come to Detroit?

"I'm enjoying this deal, I don't know," Fielder responded.

And is he going to have to play differently in Detroit than he did with the Brewers to post the same major league  numbers? Fielder doesn't think so.

"I just try to hit the ball hard, I have power, so I don't necessarily feel like I have to change everything,' Fielder said. "When I hit the ball hard, the home runs take care of themselves...I think I should be fine."

Fielder praised new teammate Miguel Cabrera, saying, "I think it's going to work out great...He's a great player, I'm just here to try to do my part and help the team win. As far as me and him, we're going to get along just fine."

With a line-up like the Tigers have now, Fielder was asked how important it is to win the World Series this year. His answer? It's always important.

"Every year you come to play, you're ready to win," he said. "It's definitely what you expect... You gotta get to the playoffs first, you've got to get through spring training."
