CBS DETROIT - Prince Fielder left Detroit with some polarizing comments, and it looks like he may be returning with more of the same as the series between the Texas Rangers and the Detroit Tigers approaches.
"I don't give a f--- about the Detroit series," the slugger told reporters Tuesday. "I just want to get back."
Fielder has missed the last three games for a herniated disk in his neck, a condition that ended his consecutive game streak at 547. The move to Texas has not been as therapeutic for Fielder as some had predicted; he has smacked just three homers so far this season, and his batting average is a lackluster .247.
Fielder ended last season on a considerable slump, failing to produce RBIs in the American League Championship Series and losing favor with fans, particularly after his infamous stoicism in the locker room following the series-ending Game 6 loss.
"It's not really tough for me," Fielder told 97.1 The Ticket's Jeff Riger in Boston. "It's over, bro."
Pressed for more emotion on that disappointing day for the Tigers, Fielder revealed little, saying he has kids and did not want to take work home with him. To say the statement did not sit well with fans would be an understatement.
Detroit's four-game series with Texas begins Thursday.
