Preliminary Exam Delayed For Handyman In Bashara Murder Case
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A preliminary examination has been postponed for the man accused of killing a Grosse Pointe Park woman, allegedly at her husband's request.
Joseph Gentz is charged with first degree murder and conspiracy to murder in connection with the death of Jane Bashara. No one else has been named in the co-conspiracy charge.
A preliminary examination was scheduled Monday for Joseph Gentz in Detroit's 36th District Court. But it was adjourned at the request of defense lawyer Susan Reed, who said there is just too much evidence to sift through and she needs more time.
A new date for the hearing isn't yet known.
Gentz told authorities Bashara's husband, Bob Bashara, offered him money to kill her. Bashara has been ordered to stand trial on charges of allegedly trying to hire a hitman to kill Gentz. Bashara has pled not guilty on those charges.
Jane Bashara, a 56-year-old marketing executive and mother of two, was found strangled in Mercedes-Benz SUV in a Detroit alley.
