Pre-Trial Testimony Continues In Bianca Jones Murder Case
DETROIT (WWJ) - The preliminary examination for D'Andre Lane, the father of 2-year-old Detroiter Bianca Jones, continued Friday in 36th District Court in Detroit.
Lane, 32, was charged last month with one count of first degree murder and one count of child abuse in the first degree, although the
Bianca's has not been found.
Prosecutors, who say Lane killed Bianca while punishing her for soiling her clothes, questioned the child's mother, Banika Jones, about potty training Bianca.
"I told them that she was pretty good, but she still had accident. He said, 'Ok. I'll work with her'," Jones said.
Also testifying on Friday was family friend Mary Ford Gandy, who provided her account of how Lane was acting on December 2nd, the day he reported the abduction of his daughter.
According to Gandy, Lane rushed to Banika Jones, seeming visibly upset. She said that it took her about 15 minutes to calm Lane down so she coud call 9-1-1 and report the information on the missing child to the dispatcher. Prosecutors also played the 9-1-1 tape in court.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has said Lane made up a story about a car-jacking to cover up his daughter's death.
If convicted, he faces mandatory life in prison with no chance of parole.
