Pre-Teen Pleads Guilty To Armed Robbery
PONTIAC (WWJ) - A 12-year-old Oakland County girl has plead guilty in an armed robbery case.
WWJ's Marie Osborne reports the Highland Township girl was lead into the courtroom wearing a blue jail jumpsuit and shackles.
She entered a guilty plea and then went on to describe to Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Mary Ellen Brennan how she went into a Highland Township party store on April 15, pointed a loaded gun at the clerk and demanded money.
Family friends say the girl told them she did it to get money for her mother, to help pay the mortgage. The family home was in foreclosure.
Kari Cameron said the girl has said she's sorry, and called the entire situation, "heartbreaking."
"She's very remorseful; very remorseful for her actions," Cameron said.
Judge Brennan ordered psychiatric exams for the girl and both of her parents, who have reportedly been involved in a contentious divorce and custody battle for over a year.
The girl will be charged as a juvenile and will be held at Children's Village youth detention center until her next court date on May 31.
Her name has not been released.
