Power Returned To Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital

ROYAL OAK (AP) - Electricity has been restored to parts of a suburban Detroit hospital which lost power when problems were found in two underground cables.

Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak spokeswoman Colette Stimmell says full power was returned about 12:15 p.m. Friday.

Emergency generator power went on about 8 p.m. Thursday as crews from DTE Energy took down the cables for repair.

Stimmell says the utility notified Beaumont officials about the cable problems about 5:30 p.m. Thursday. Some patient rooms were without air conditioning and television.

A third cable continued to supply power to the hospital's South Tower and other parts of the campus.

Stimmell says the emergency room remained open and medical equipment remained operational. Essential surgeries were moved to the South Tower. No patients had to be relocated to other facilities.
