Pontiac Residents To Discuss Policing By Sheriff's Deputies
Some nervousness in Pontiac on a proposed takeover of policing duties by the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.
And, starting at 6:00 p.m. Friday, residents are expected to make their opinions heard at a town hall meeting.
Pastor Douglas Jones, president of the Committee of 50 in Pontiac, told WWJ he understands the concern over losing local control; the same concern voiced in other communities now policed by the sheriff's office.
"We went through that in Rochester ... Oxford, every place was that the outsiders coming in and they don't know us, we don't know them," Jones said. "But, surprisingly enough, the storms have settled in those areas. Things seem to be working smoothly and it's possible it could work here. But, we'll have to wait and see what happens," he added.
Jones say the main concern in Pontiac is safety and security.
