Pontiac Police Fight To Keep Fighting Crime
With more than a month before they would go out of business, Pontiac police are now offering a three-part plan to keep their officers on the street.
Officials say the city can keep their own force if department personnel agree to a one-year 10 percent pay cut, contract with the county for dispatch services and ask voters to approve a millage increase. The proposal would boost the department from 65 to 78 officers.
This is a counter-proposal to the pending contract with the Oakland County Sheriff's Department to provide road patrols come January. The issue could be brought up in a county meeting December 1st.
