Pontiac Mother, Child Killed In Woodward Ave. Rollover
PONTIAC (WWJ) - A 28-year-old Pontiac woman and her 5-year-old son have died in an accident near downtown Birmingham.
A third passenger, a 2-year-old boy, was taken Royal Oak Beaumont with non-life threatening injuries.
The Detroit Free Press identifies the woman as Lashawnda Mott. Her dead son's name wasn't released.
Police said a preliminary investigation shows both the woman and another motorists were traveling northbound in a Chevy Tahoe on Woodward near Adams at a high rate of speed.
Police said it was about 2:20 a.m. when the victim's vehicle left the roadway just south of Lincoln and rolled on its side, striking a light pole. The second unknown vehicle continued north on Woodward.
Police said it wasn't immediately clear whether the two vehicles had collided or if the vehicle played some other role in the crash
Police are looking for that second vehicle, described as a dark-colored SUV -- possibly a Cadillac Escalade.
Investigators are looking over surveillance video as the investigation continues. Woodward Ave. was closed in that area.
The victims' names were not immediately released.
