Pontiac Family Scrambles To Safety As Fire Rips Through House

PONTIAC (WWJ) - A sleeping family in Pontiac got the scare of a lifetime when they were awakened by flames tearing through their home.

The fire broke out early Tuesday morning at a home on Mark Avenue near West Huron Street, just west of downtown Pontiac.

Firefighters from neighboring departments were called in as crews battled single degree temperatures while extinguishing the blaze.

Waterford Regional Fire Department Battalion Chief Marv Epperson told WWJ's Mike Campbell everyone inside the house was able to make it out with their lives.

"We have one person down at the hospital that was here who hurt his leg," he said. "But everybody got out, everybody is ok. No firefighters were hurt."

Epperson said investigators will begin combing over the debris for evidence once all of the hot spots have cooled down.

A cause of the fire remains under investigation.
