Pontiac Deals With Power Outages

PONTIAC (WWJ) - Detroit isn't the only city in Metro Detroit with power problems.  There are also widespread power outages in downtown Pontiac, according to Mayor Leon Jukowski. It's been a problem since Wednesday says Jukowski probably because of high demand due to the heat.

"It appears to be north of Auburn Orchard lake Road and pretty much confined to the downtown, core downtown inside the Wide Track Loop," said Mayor Jukowski.

Jukowski said the power is out at city hall and many other buildings in the old section of downtown and it's hard to get much accomplished.
"Well, those of us that have laptops are working from home and just doing what we can.  It's very difficult though.  The city's, you know obviously, I can't check my city email and, and  that kind of stuff."

"We have several street lights out and numerous buildings in our , the core old downtown area is still out . City hall is also out, but the police department and 911 services are functional because they're on a backup generator."

Jukowski says the police department and 911 is working because they're on a backup generator. He says they expect power to be restored this weekend.
